Rootfolio Privacy Policy

Rootfolio is a plant collection app for iOS. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. The short version: Rootfolio has no user accounts, your plant collection lives on your phone, and we never sell your data.

Your plant collection stays on your device

Your saved plants, photos, care schedules, notes, purchase details, and journal entries are stored only on your iPhone. We have no copy of them. If you delete the app, that data is deleted with it.

Photos you scan

When you scan a plant, the photo you take is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude AI service to identify the plant. The photo is used only to produce the identification. We do not store your photos on our servers.

Anonymous usage data

The app generates a random identifier on your device so we can count free scans (10 per month) and recognize an active subscription. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, or any other personal detail. Alongside it we keep scan counts, the names of plants identified, and timestamps, which we use to run the free tier and watch for abuse. Your IP address is held briefly for rate limiting and then has no further use.

Subscriptions

Rootfolio Plus subscriptions are purchased through Apple. Apple processes the payment; we never see your payment details. To activate your subscription we receive transaction identifiers from Apple and store them with the anonymous device identifier described above. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple account settings.

Voice readouts

The Listen feature converts plant text descriptions to speech using Google's Text-to-Speech service. Only the text being read aloud is sent; no photos and no identifiers.

Services we rely on

Rootfolio runs on Cloudflare (server hosting), Anthropic (plant identification AI), Google Cloud (text-to-speech), and Apple (payments and app distribution). Each receives only what is described above, only to provide their function.

What we don't do

No ads, no trackers, no analytics SDKs, no selling or sharing of data for marketing, no profiles. We collect nothing that identifies you personally.

Deleting your data

Your plant collection exists only on your phone, so deleting the app deletes it. On our servers, the only records we hold are the anonymous usage and subscription entries described above, and they are not linked to your identity. If you would like them erased anyway, email us at AuraBull05@gmail.com and we will delete every record tied to your device within 30 days. Cancelling a subscription is done through Apple, not by contacting us.

Children

Rootfolio is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated date above.
